Our health care workers are working harder than ever before and taking much greater personal risks to deal with people infected with or impacted by the Covid-19 virus. At the same time, some local food businesses are suffering from the downturn in business, as well as missing the connection with their communities.
The "I KARE KAO campaign" addresses both issues by purchasing sweet treats from local small businesses negatively impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and sending them to healthcare professionals working on the front lines.
Help show your support to these vital workers (and your local business community) by donating to this campaign.
This campaign is being coordinated by Ayissi Nyemba, the CEO of EMKAO, a social impact company that imports ethical cacao beans from a family farm in Cameroon to the BC's market. The company is devoted to education, research, and the dissemination of quality information about cacao and chocolate.
The following companies have agreed to either provide their sweet treats at a discount or to donate them so that your contributions go much further.
We are aiming to collect products throughout May to make a minimum of "100 hampers" where 100 care workers will each receive a hamper of products coming from the participating chocolate companies. This means that if we reach our $10,000 fundraising goal, 1000 care workers will receive sweet treats.
Who will benefit?
- Local food businesses - All purchased sweet treats come from local businesses that have been negatively impacted as a result of the economic downturn from the COVID-19 crisis.
- Healthcare Staff and healthcare professionals - Each recipient will receive an #IKAREKAO care package as a gesture of solidarity from the community and to help sustain their energy at work or as a simple luxury to unwind after a long day of caring for patients.
- You benefit too! - We all benefit by being a part of this supportive community effort to stand in solidarity with these essential caregivers in this time of unprecedented need.
