Rype Office in the UK remanufactures office furniture for 50% less than the identical new furniture price and a 67% lower environmental footprint. While office furniture is often reused and sometimes recycled, the founders of Rype Office create additional value by remanufacturing furniture into as-new condition – often more than once!
To make the economics work, Rype Office had to research the most cost-effective ways to resurface and rebuild furniture. For example, Rype found a benign alternative to toxic chroming that had been developed in Germany. They also had to overcome the misconceptions of buyers who perceive that remanufactured furniture is of lower quality, which is simply not true.
