Three hundred investors provided 5 year loans totaling $2.2 million at 7% interest to fund North America’s first zoo biogas plant in Toronto. They call it poo power because the plant will be located at the Toronto Zoo where it will process animal waste from the zoo. It will also process food waste from the Loblaw grocery store chain. The plant is expected to produce one third of the Zoo’s electricity demand and to reduce its GHG emissions by 10,000 tonnes. You can learn more at zooshare.ca. This kind of project has great “poo” tential!
