In 2013, professional caterer and Chef Karrie Hill, a resident of Victoria, BC, decided to set up a food truck business called Deadbeetz. She managed to cover the cost of the truck but still needed about $7,000 to install a commercial hood vent and fire suppression system. She decided to raise the funds from the local crowd and 70 backers, contributing a total of $7,225 to make her dream a reality.
Deadbeetz can now be found at many events and downtown Victoria street corners where Karrie and her team serve up imaginative twists on burgers and curries all made from scratch with local ingredients wherever possible.
