why is it that so much of our urban infrastructure neglects our environment? from concrete streets, to wooden benches, none of these surfaces work well with rain, however, these materials cover our urban streetscapes. 

this rain storage bench designed by Yoonshik Lee explores how to best take advantage of rainfall by imagining a bench that collects water. this water can then be emptied to care for nearby plants, or other purposes. its viability pathways also create an education opportunity for people to learn more about rainwater collection and watch the collection increase throughout the season.

at frida&frank we believe that it’s important to think about how to work together with nature throughout our practice. our urban environments should synchronize with the natural world and allow people the opportunities for people to connect to the earth.
