The Winnipeg warming hut competition

In 2009, a group of architects organized a competition to encourage local residents to design and build warming huts in the dead of winter along a popular public trail in Winnipeg, one of Canada’s coldest cities.  The competition was so successful that it has now been running for 9 years.   The creative designs for the  warming huts is simply astounding and shows that great community placemaking can happen any time of year, even at 20 degrees below zero!  Can you think of a public space in your community that would be enlivened by a creatively designed winter warming hut?
