Winterhood Placemaking Lab

Winters are long and cold in St. Paul, Minnesota: for five months of the year temperatures tend to be below zero degrees Celsius!

In weather conditions like this, it’s important to make sure that our communities are able to provide necessary seasonal social support. While successful public spaces allow for interaction with strangers, people are a lot less inclined to sit in a park during the winter months.

The city of St. Paul embarked in a wonderful “wintervention” project between 2015-2016 in order to look at ways to encourage placemaking during these months.
