35% of those who were born in Kelowna actually remain in the area to contribute to the local culture. Even students who attend UBC-O transfer to UBC Vancouver in great numbers. What is known from Urban studies is midsized cities attract creatives if they can provide the follow:

1. easily available dog walk areas

2. inner city green spaces and parks close to their residences

3. low crime and a sense of personal safety

4. affordable housing and good local day care and schools

Quality of Place includes these elements and also the necessity for excellent and affordable cultural entertainment.

If Kelowna is going to keep the brilliant young, access to the lake; parks and open places; affordable housing; lower crime will be goals to focus upon.
