BUILD A SKATEPARK FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

It’s a sad reality that SFU is sometimes mentioned as “The prison on the hill”, and when looking at its dull appearance, it’s clear why. Why, I even lived in residence at some point and couldn’t help but feel isolated. Skateparks are great because it brings people together and promotes creativity through excerise. Not having skateparks at my past campus has ruined my educational experience and I’ve even switched schools because of it. Not everyone fits into the social construct of organized team sports like soccer and football. Skateparks provide spaces for people who identify themselves differently. UBC has a pretty good skatepark (it could be way better, however). Skateboarders are a different sort of person who are misrepresented in the academic sphere, the STIGMA NEEDS TO STOP SFU!
