Enhance habitat and preserve cultural heritage at Departure Creek in Nanaimo

Departure Creek empties into Departure Bay at the foot of Bay Street.  It has been identified as a stream that could be significantly enhanced for fish and other stream dwelling species.  It also has some cultural significance as a site used by First Nations.  An archeological assessment is being conducted in cooperation with the Snuneymuxw First Nation.  Funds for this project could be use to restore the stream habitat preserve cultural aspects of the site and possibly develop interpretive signage so that residents and tourists can better understand and enjoy this tiny estuary.   This project would require significant involvement from the City of Nanaimo and the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
