Freshen up the outdoor areas to make them more enticing to visitors and residents

Creating more spaces outdoors in the downtown area that are covered such as picnic tables with canopies. Have carpentry students compete to create such spaces that connect with Kitimat’s heritage of logging, fishing and Haisla First Nation. Such spaces would help to promote a more relaxed atmosphere in the area. Giving workers in the area as well as visitors a place to enjoy a coffee or lunch may lead to more options for food and beverages being created in some of the empty retail spaces. Having art pieces displayed outdoors or murals on the buildings will further enhance the attractiveness of the space.
