A Repair Cafe is a place where residents gather to help each other repair household goods instead of having to throw them away. The Repair Cafe concept was founded in the Netherlands by Martine Postma in 2009. There are now over 1500 Repair Cafes around the world. At least 10 of them are located in British Columbia, including: Victoria, Saanich, Nanaimo, Comox, Vancouver, Squamish, Maple Ridge, Gibsons, and Kelowna. Some repair cafes, like the Nanaimo Repair Cafe, are held in public facilities like libraries on certain occasions while others have permanent locations.
