Refurbish the Italian Fountain in Downtown Nanaimo

The Italian Fountain is located in Italian Square in front of the Port Place Shopping Centre.  It was built by 150 volunteers in 1960 and features spawning Salmon.  While modest repairs/improvements were made to the fountain in 2012 and 2014,  it now looks quite dated.  Wouldn’t it be great if it was redesigned and refurbished into something that looks aesthetically beautiful and that encourages people to gather and linger around the fountain.

The Italian Fountain was gifted to Nanaimo by the Italian community. Any repurpose of it would not be supportive of the history and dedication of those individuals whom helped build this town and in particular this fantastic hand crafted fountain that we have had for over 50 years. I want to see it continue just as it sits.
