Revitalize the swimming pool – opening glass covered space with child pool and spray park

Open up the wall facing the REC Centre lawn and build an airy, naturally lit space along that wall all the way to the ice arena entrance.  This could create a dramatic entrance to the REC Centre that could act as a meeting place, which then leads into the swimming pool with a children’s play pool and spray park that is open in summer and closed in winter, and the other way to the ice arena.  Include comfortable seating for parents so they can watch their children doing lessons and playing, while they connect with other parents.   Shading would be needed in summer.  This would allow the swimming pool to become more useable for families in both winter and summer, and create a dynamic entrance space that brings together swimmers, skaters and community members who just enjoy the atrium area.

Love the idea of the summertime splash pool, and all year round kiddy and adult pools. We need the pool opened all winter as a way for people to get exercise and have fun. We could have swim classes, exercise classes, lane swimming, seniors’ swim and teens’ swim.
